Forming permanent DEI Committee: Initial and On-going Charge(s)

JCCC is creating a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Its initial charge:

  • Using strategic goals (complete by end of May 2021) and DEI Assessment (completed): define DEI goals and how they should be accomplished on this campus.
    • What do we need to achieve our goals?
    • What resources are involved (dedicated DEI staff, space, etc.)?
    • Where should this reside in our organizational structure?
    • Complete this by December 2021 so incorporation of this can be part of budgeting beginning in early 2022 and hiring thereafter.

Its on-going charge:

  • [To be more thoroughly defined by committee once convened.]
  • Set goals, serve as an accountability structure and communication center for DEI work on this campus
    • In setting goals, special attention paid to not making DEI work voluntary on our campus (or housed only in this committee); instead, committee identifies needs and collaborates with dedicated DEI staff members (with training/experience in DEI-related fields) who focus on implementation
    • Ensure college, its leadership, and dedicated DEI staff members continue to take action and make progress related to the DEI Assessment’s recommendations and other goals determined by committee
    • Communication center for colleagues, students, and dedicated DEI staff members on DEI in general and at the college specifically

These charges were determined in collaboration with Dr. Bowne and at DEI Taskforce meetings in February and March.
