ColoMATYC Keynote

Steven J. Wilson, professor of mathematics at JCCC, was the keynote speaker at the spring 2012 meeting of ColoMATYC, the Colorado Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.  His presentation was titled “You Borrowed at What Rate?!”.  The presentation examined the mathematics of the Annual Percentage Rate, and looked at many examples where the officially defined APR differed from either the reported rate or the borrower’s effective rate.

ColoMATYC is the Colorado affiliate of AMATYC, the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.  The organization meets annually at different Colorado colleges.  This year, it met on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Rampart Range campus of Pikes Peak Community College.  About 75 Colorado two-year college math educators were in attendance.
