Installing Windows 11

Installing the Windows 11 upgrade should be an easy task that you can do without the direct assistance of our Technical Support Center. Before you begin, please be sure that:

  1. You have received confirmation that your computer is compatible from the TSC.
  2. Your computer is plugged into a dock or power supply and you are ON CAMPUS and connected to the JCCC network (wireless or ethernet – VPN will NOT work).
  3. You have saved all current work and closed all open applications.
  4. You have approximately one hour to complete the installation.

When you are ready, go to the Start menu and type Software Center into the search bar:

During this process, your computer will restart at least once. When complete, login as usual. The installation will be complete.

If you have any questions or issues with the installation process, please submit a ticket to the TSC or contact them at ext 7700.

If you have any questions about changes and features, please see our Windows 11 Upgrade page.

Why should I upgrade to Windows 11?
Windows 11 delivers the best security improvements to keep your data and identity secure.
Do I need to backup all my stuff?
Windows 11 is an upgraded operating system, but it will not remove any files on your computer. However, any open applications will be forced closed and files open in them may not be saved.
What new features does Windows 11 have?
Windows 11 features a new taskbar, added features in Explorer windows, and some new layout options. For more information, please see our Windows 11 Upgrade page or find more help with some of these links:

Will you be offering training on Windows 11?
We will in the Fall PDD sessions in preparation for campus-wide adoption. In the meantime, if you need assistance with navigating around Windows 11 or have questions about the features, feel free to pop into our Ed Tech Zoom Room and get help right away. If you’d like more formalized classes, we would encourage you to sign up for our free LinkedIn Learning subscription and get access to comprehensive video tutorials of Windows 11.
