How do we make sure everyone not only shares in success, but contributes to the success of the United States of America? That is middle class economics. That’s our project.” President Barack Obama spoke at KU about middle class economics on Jan 22. Speaking about the present economic situation, the President said, “We have put ourselves in a position in which the economy could, potentially, grow not just next year or the year after that, but over the next decade and generate jobs that all of you will fill. So the verdict is this: middle class economics works. Equal opportunities for everybody works. […] And these policies will continue to work, as long as politicians don’t get in the way!” Members of the audience hold their phones, eager to get photos of he president walking to the podium. Opening his speech, he clarified that “there is no liberal America, there is no conservative America, there is a United Stats of America. We are all supposed to be on the same team.” President Obama further explained his proposal for universal childcare. On Jan. 20, people waited in line at the Douglas County Fairgrounds for tickets to see President Barack Obama speak at the Anschutz Sports Pavilion at KU. After presenting a valid ID, participants were asked to sign the ticket and exit the building.
