Avery Hotchkiss

JCCC’s Fire Science Division is in shock and utter heartbreak over the loss of former Cadet, Avery Hotchkiss.  Avery recently graduated from our 2021 Fall Fire Academy.  Prior to her enrollment with us, she was heavily engaged in preparing herself for success in our program during her time in the Gardner Edgerton High School Fire Science Program.  As a JCCC Cadet, She instantly stood out with her noted excitement and willingness to learn, perform, and succeed in the fire service.  Her positive attitude was contagious to say the least.  Avery went on to volunteer for Edwardsville Fire Department where she had recently worked her very first fire call just weeks before her untimely death.

To honor Avery in her early, yet impactful legacy within our program and the Gardner Edgerton High School Fire Science Program, Chief Tim Whitham and members of the Edwardsville Fire Department have established a fundraiser/memorial fund in Avery’s memory to aid future students in establishing a fire service career.
