ANGEL Orientation

Because Comp 1 is a gateway class (that is, success in Comp 1 correlates highly with success in college), and for many students it is a class they take their first semester in class – we cover some topics, skills and information that are crucial to student success.  Not the least of these academic readiness items is an ANGEL orientation.

Our class requires students to demonstrate and document an understanding of the Learning Managment System (LMS) – here we use ANGEL. The college promotes use of educational technology  – by both the student senate and the administration (as shown in the screengrab to the right taken from the college course catalog).

All students have access to ANGEL, and to an Orientation Course therein.  However, unless an instructor requires the orientation few students go there.   We require you 1) enroll in the Orientation, then 2) go look around and see what’s there and 3) take the final assessment and get 80% or better.  NOTE: YOU MUST TAKE THE ASSESSMENT AND SCORE 80% OR BETTER TO ENTER OUR CLASS CONTENT.   Even without taking the assessment you can get into some instructor’s classes, but not ours.  But once you take the assessment – no other class will require you to take it.

For our class, you must take the assessment before the start of the second week of class – regardless of how short the first week might be. Otherwise you will lose quiz points. The following screen grab might help.
