HCIS Internship Objectives

The JCCC Healthcare Information Systems Program has a wide range of potential sites from which students can obtain their internship experience. This includes academic health care systems,  health care facilities, among others. Opportunities may exist in other healthcare related environments, and with the approval of the Health Information Systems course instructor, the student can meet the internship experience requirements at these additional sites.

General Objectives

The internship experience should be beneficial to both the student and the institution providing the internship. Interns will:

  1. Expand their understanding of a health IT professional environment.
  2. Gain practical experience in applying theory and method while working with a health information team.
  3. Gain experience in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and documenting a significant project.
  4. Develop professional relationships.
