Cryer’s College Scholars Presentation

Dan Cryer, assistant professor of English, will give a College Scholars presentation at 5:30 p.m. February 5, 2019 in the Hudson Auditorium.  Cryer’s presentation is titled, “Bridging the Gap Between Conservation and Environmentalism.” Here is his short description of the talk: “Views of conservationists (often rural and hands-on) and environmentalists (often suburban/urban and political) can clash, but the life and work of canonical nature writer Aldo Leopold shows that we share more than we disagree on. Leopold, and the current work of the Wisconsin-based Leopold Foundation, demonstrate that concern for nature bridges many differences.”  A reception from 6:30-7 p.m. will follow the presentation.

Fitzpatrick’s Sabbatical Blog

During her spring 2019 sabbatical, Maureen Fitzpatrick will be keeping a blog on the academic literature she reads as well as creative writing in new media.  As Maureen makes discoveries from week to week, she will record, reflect, and experiment with ideas here:

Maureen’s sabbatical will examine the evolution of new media as a distinct genre of creative writing. In addition to exploring transmedia storytelling, interactive fictions and iDocumentaries, she will review scholarship on the storytelling potential of augmented/virtual reality, the Internet of Things, and the status of new media in creative curricula.
