At Johnson County Community College, events like Soccer Student Night demonstrate the profound impact of student support on both athletes and the broader campus community. Whether in the stands or on the field, the connection between fans and players helps build a strong sense of pride and energy across JCCC.

For Ashley Garcia, attending Student Night is about being something bigger.

“It makes me feel involved because it’s open to students,” she said.

She enjoys seeing her classmates compete and the chance to meet new people.

“It makes me feel more involved, and meeting new people is really cool,” she added.

Garcia encourages other students to come out and support.

“Show up with your friends and have a positive attitude,” Garcia said.

In the field, that energy makes a real difference. Ben Points, a member of the JCCC men’s soccer team, said the fan support gives the players an extra boost.

“I think energy from the fans gives us a boost when we’re playing a tough team,” he said.

One moment that stood out for him was the team’s upset over Iowa Lakes.

“The crowd support really pushed us to upset Iowa Lakes–it’s good to have that extra energy from the crowd,” Points said.

Balancing academics and athletics takes focus and support, too.

“I just have to write everything down and prioritize the right things so I don’t fall behind,” Points said. “It’s nice having school tutors who help keep us on track.”

He praised the JCCC community around the athletes.

“I wish people knew how much support we get from our coaches, counselors, and academic advisors,” Points said.

Together, voices like Garcia’s and Points’ show how events like Student Night are more than just a game–they’re a celebration of teamwork, encouragement, and the community spirit that makes JCCC special.
