JCCC Women’s Basketball Off To Rival KCKCC

Johnson County Community College’s women’s basketball will make a quick stop in KCK to face their rival, Kansas City Kansas Community College in a regular-season matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 11. This game is a must-win for the Cavaliers to keep their undefeated record and number 1 ranking.

Last week, the Cavaliers defeated Allen County Community College 70-56. Sophomore guard Layla Scott had a notable performance, posting 28 minutes, 13 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

The Cavaliers continued the winning streak last Saturday with a 108-39 blowout win against Highland Community College. Sophomore guard Kara Stricklin supplied 25 points, six assists and five rebounds as the Cavs moved to 24-0 overall and 6-0 in conference.

Scott was one of the two players named KJCCC Women’s Player of the Week, on the strength of 15 points, five rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals for the last week of January.

KCKCC could prove to be a formidable opponent, with a 14-8 (.636) record and an average of 67.3 points per game. Yaslyn Gonzales poses a scoring threat, averaging the team’s highest points per game with 11.5.

JCCC Men’s Basketball Test Perfect Record

Last Tuesday, Cavaliers Men’s basketball improved to 23-0 this season with an 83-55 win over North Central Missouri College. With only six games remaining in the season, the month of February will decide if their record will stay perfect.

The defense stayed strong with 22 points off turnovers compared to North Central’s five. Avian Webb led the scoring with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. The bench had a great outing, scoring a total of 33 pts.

This Wednesday, Feb. 11,  the men will face off at Bridenthal Court in KCK against the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils.  Both teams have met once before this season, with the Cavaliers winning decisively 78-59.

The Blue Devils are ranked 5th in the conference, with a conference record of 2-4 and a total season record of 13-11.

The Cavs defense will need to watch out for Anthony Leonard, who is averaging 14.5 pts a game and is 5th in the conference in scoring.
