The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s food drive is live now through spring break to support JCCC’s Student Basic Needs Center. Located in GEB 153, this organization supports students who are struggling to buy food and other personal care items.

“This is the hardest time of the year for the Basic Needs Center,” Edward Brooks, PTK service officer, said. “The food drive is a competition between clubs, but students can still donate.”

PTK will be hosting the event on March 11 in GEB 140 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The club with the most points gets a party fully funded by the PTK. We have 50 points for baby products, 40 points for hygiene products, 30 points for spices, 20 points for non-perishable food and 10 points for dollar donations,” Privilege Mudzembwe, vice president of PTK, said.

Everything that is donated directly helps the people here at JCCC. Food is not the only thing that can be donated.

“Other items like soap and laundry detergent can be donated, [not just] food,” Brooks said.

Canned foods, pastas, jellies and spices are also acceptable things to donate. The Basic Needs Center needs all the help students can provide and appreciates any and all the items you can donate. As Brooks repeated, anything helps.
