Get ready for some classic prom fun with a twist. On May 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. in RC 101, the African Caribbean Student Association (ACSA) is holding an Afro Prom.

“Afro Prom is a cultural celebration event that highlights African and Afro-diasporic culture through music, fashion, dance and community,” ACSA Social Media Manager Michelle Boweye said. “It’s similar to a traditional prom, but with a strong emphasis on cultural expression and pride.”

At this event, attendees can expect a wide variety of music, including Afrobeats, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B. There will also be cultural performances, fashion shows, prom king and queen crownings and much more.

“The event is being held to celebrate African and Caribbean cultures, bring students together and create a fun and memorable experience on campus. It also promotes diversity and cultural appreciation within the student body,” Boweye said.

ACSA is a student-led organization that is dedicated to celebrating and promoting African and Caribbean cultures.

“ACSA works to build community, promote cultural awareness and create an inclusive space for students. The club hosts events, discussions and programs that celebrate African and Caribbean heritage while also educating others and encouraging cultural appreciation,” Boweye said.
