How To College: How To Get Yourself Studying Reddit-Style, Premier Theatre Experience At JCCC, & How To Go From Intern To Brand Manager

How To Get Yourself Studying, Reddit-Style

As a student, I go through the procrastination phases just like all of you. But I finally get tired of the brain fog and want to “lock in.” And no, I’m not talking about a gym routine (even though they may also help). I’m talking about the good ol’ reddit ‘r/GetStudying’ page.

If you’re tired of people telling you to get eight hours of sleep or to get some cardio done, I’ve got you. Sources on Reddit recommended ways to snap into focus, like Brain Workshop’s Dual n’ Back, a brain training exercise that improves your memory and “fluid intelligence.”

In the same subreddit, another user posted about their own two months of experimenting and research. This user talks about cold showers, sitting through their boredom, and even recommends ways to learn when using social media, instead of using it to cause brain-rot and procrastinate finishing your assignments.

If you’re anything like me and need to give yourself a kick to get started, I recommend locking yourself out of your phone or creating screen time for individual apps. Being able to go from eight to five hours of screen time is a huge step in the right direction. Hitting the ‘not interested’ button on reels helps detach yourself from your apps. Or, go old school and throw the phone away.

JCCC Students Have Access To A Premier Theatre Experience

With the spring semester in full swing, the Midwest Trust Center has a full calendar. Students at Johnson County Community College have a wide array of critically acclaimed shows and acts to choose from, and Student tickets to all shows are $5.

Students can buy tickets  online or by visiting the box office in the Midwest Trust Center.

Notable shows coming up are: Secrets of Space, Winterlude Jazz Festival featuring Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and ‘Serial Killers’ with Dr. Scott Bonn.

Students at JCCC can also suggest certain groups and shows.

The Midwest Trust Center’s Executive Director, Stacie McDaniel, says, “The Midwest Trust Center is always open to suggestions for who to book in the future,  If you attend a show at the MTC, you can fill out the post-show survey, where there is space to recommend shows or artists you’d like to see.  You can also email us at [email protected] with your ideas; we love hearing from you.”

How To Go From Intern To Brand Manager

Internships can shape your entire college experience, and sometimes, your career. When I first started interning at Savvy Bridal Collective, I expected to assist with small marketing tasks and learn behind the scenes of a bridal boutique. Within a year, that internship evolved into a full-time brand management role.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Job Outlook survey, students with internship experience are significantly more likely to receive job offers after graduation. My experience reflects that. What began as content support turned into overseeing branding, social media strategy, campaign launches and multi-location marketing.

For students in fashion, marketing or business programs, think outside of the box. In my case, bridal is an overlooked but powerful industry. The U.S. wedding industry generates billions annually, according to WWD, creating opportunities in retail buying, brand strategy, operations and digital marketing.

Internships are more than résumé builders, they are real-world classrooms. They teach ownership, communication and adaptability in ways lectures cannot.
