March 14, 1969  –  Recommendation: Johnson County Community College join the Jayhawk Conference as soon as the Conference will permit. 1 page document

Basketball becomes first intercollegiate sport; the Stage Band played for home basketball games.

Basketball team is formed and is called “Kansans” (L 12/04/2008, p12)

September 16, 1969 – Kathy Wharton, Olathe, wins a contest to name the JCCC athletic teams and student body.  They officially become the “Kansans”.  (VV, p. 18) (PP p. 3)

October 29, 1969 – Letter from H to Board, The Citizens, whose names are attached, known as the Johnson County Community College Advisory Committee for Athletics etc….. 2 page document found in box 1

October 30, 1969 – Recommendation: It is recommended that Johnson County Community College participate in golf, track and tennis beginning in the spring of 1970. 1 page document (4.1.5.2 – C)
