Physical Education Athletics History

The first year for women’s basketball was 1974 with Nancy Smith as the head coach.  There is not much information from the basketball seasons from this time. If you have any information please feel free to reach out.

Johnson County Community College earned it first trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in the 1999-2000 season, and when the tournament was complete, the Cavaliers were national champions.   Johnson County completed its run through the Division II tournament Saturday night, March 17, with a 63-61 victory over Monroe Community College of Rochester, N.Y.,  in the title game in Hagerstown, Md.

The Women’s Basketball team were National Champions in 2015 and is the most recent of the 11 national titles in JCCC school history. Head Coach Ben Conrad Two-time National Coach of the Year Ben Conrad took over the reigns of the Johnson County Community College women’s basketball program in June, 2008, the Lady Cavaliers’ stature not just rose in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference but on the national stage as well. Conrad has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success and carved a reputation as an energetic leader and relentless recruiter. In his first season, he began to build his program on a foundation of hard work, defensive effort and a “team first” mentality and the program has thrived under this direction.
