March 11, 1979 – NJCAA Women’s Basketball Banquet speaker Wilma Rudolph, 3-time Olympic Gold medals signed the banquet program in box 4

March 12-17, 1979 – 5th Annual NJCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament held at JCCC.

April 6, 1979 – First Annual Johnson County All-Star Basketball Game – Flyer in box 1

April 14, 1979 – 2nd Annual Quarter Marathon (Yellow Form from Box 1)

1979-1980– JCCC first season of Wrestling, Head coach Larry Rechfertig no assistant.  Team record of 7 wins and 9 losses. MVP and  All Region, John Baska, captain from Bishop Ward.

May 6,1979 – Softball team, coached by Barbara Gill, won the Region championship, defeating Cloud County Community College 9-6 and Cowley County Community College 11-2. Played at Johnson County Girls Athletic Association (JCGAA) fields, this earned the team a bid to the National Tournament

May 24-26, 1979 – 4th place finish in NJCAA Women’s Fast Pitch Softball Tournament in St. Louis at Harrawood Softball Complex.  Head Coach:  Barbara Gill • Season Overall:  36-15 • Tournament 3-2, Led by All-American Pat Hebenstreit and pitcher Deb Anderson, JCCC placed fourth nationally in its inaugural season.  Hebenstreit earned all-tournament honors posting a .400 (6-for-15) average.  Anderson struck out 24 batters in 27 innings, and posted an ERA of 1.55. JCCC posted a 3-2 record highlighted by a opening round win of 12-1 over North Hennepin.
