The “Kansans,” the original name of JCCC’s teams, become the “Cavaliers.” The board approves the name change for JCCC teams following a campus-wide referendum conducted by the Student Senate.
February 22, 1983 College Mascot was voted by student body to changed to Cavaliers. The Student Senate would like to recommend that the Board of Trustees approve the change in the College mascot from the Kansans to the Cavaliers. The change would become effective Summer, 1983; however, the Physical Development Division would have until fiscal year 1986 to make a complete uniform change. In BOT memorandum.
Spring 1983 – Amy Borders NJCAA All-American in Outdoor Shot Put with a 6th place finish. Attended Nationals Track meet with Margarete Howell as coach as JCCC did not have a track team.
Fall 1983 – Amy Borders NJCAA All American in Volleyball as JCCC places 5th at National Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland. Borders competed with a broken finger.
