Orville Gregory was the first to be hired as physical development director and basketball coach. Roosevelt Theodore (“Sonny” ) Maynard first African American hired – faculty member (BT). Kathy Stood was the first female hired as a physical education teacher. According to Sonny Maynard, Stood and Gregory did not get along very well and she left after a year and D.J. Moore was hired as the second female.
