Welcome to Staff Development!

Extra Effort and Team Effort Awards – December 4, 2020

Megan Casey, Asst. Bursar, Bursar Operations – Nominated by Suzanne Maheu, Dessa Crum, Jaya Daniel and Kim Steinmetz

Megan has been crucial for IISS’ insurance process. We’ve had a lot of exceptions with our insurance provider due to COVID. This has made an already complicated and manual process more cumbersome. Megan has patiently run lists, edited charges, and worked with us through all the exceptions. Megan is an excellent Bursar that supports students through her actions. She is willing to consider the grey areas and support teams. She recognizes her hard work and actions impact the student experience. It’s a joy to work with someone like Megan!

In early November, admissions was hit with several thousand fake applications for admission.  The IS team kicked in high gear to help mitigate the program.  After many long hours and missed vacation days, knock on wood, their fixes have held the malicious attack at bay.

Moving forward, the virtual Extra Effort Awards will be announced bi-weekly.  The virtual Extra Effort Award nomination form can be found at https://blogs.jccc.edu/staffdev/awards/extra-effort/

TEAM EFFORT AWARD:

Congratulations!  To the following group who were nominated for a Team Effort Award!

Your team was nominated by Kim Steinmetz and is made up of the following people:

Cassie Fulk, Manager Student Activities/Leadership Development, Student Activities
Suzanne Maheu, Coordinator International Community Support Services, International & Immigrant Student Services

Accomplishment: (Task must have been completed upon this nomination)

Janette, Cassie, and Suzanne planned activities for International Education week – which is a Department of State initiative for colleges and universities to promote the power of international engagement and education.  This planning session was unusual as they started planning in person but moved to online planning.  The same occurred with our events as well.  The goal is to effectively partner across campus, and within areas that work to support international opportunities that are available on our campus.  The group planned an online trivia, incorporated already existing events, and ultimately, delivered a virtual international education week.  This allowed opportunities for those to engage in our global campus without leaving their homes. They did a fantastic job and created JCCC international trivia for students, faculty, and staff.  The team created rewards and provided global learning and engagement.  They work together well and always collaborate to make education part of academics, student services, and learner engagement divisions.  This partnership highlights the uniqueness of the US educational system which is experiential and activity-based learning.

Veteran Services teamed up with Financial Aid, the Foundation, the Marketing, and Video Services teams to create a virtual Veterans Week 2020 celebration, Spotlight on Veterans.Through our Pay It Forward scholarship fund we awarded $5000 to student veterans, and the web team created a wonderful page that showcased the student veterans, the honorees, and donors. The web team also took extra pains to have everything completed for our 10-year Veterans Week retrospective which highlights some of the many events we have presented over the last 10 years. This is a great example of the continued collegiality and teamwork at JCCC even during these challenging times.
