Special Events

The Medical Information & Revenue Management (MIRM) department hosted its Spring Advisory Board Meeting on Friday, March 3, 2023, in conjunction with the Healthcare Information Systems (HCIS) department. Faculty shared current program metrics, curriculum and marketing updates. Board discussion focused on industry “hot topics.”  The next meeting will be scheduled for Fall 2023.

MIRM 148: Medical Coding Internship students participated in a LinkedIn workshop with Christine Snyder from the Career Development Center on Monday, February 20, 2023. Students learned the importance of a strong LinkedIn profile, including the increase in search visibility once all-star status has been gained – 40 times more likely to appear! Students were encouraged to take advantage of free resources, including the photo booth in the JCCC Co-Lab. Patti Frank, Consultants in Practice management and MIRM Advisory Board member, presented E&M Coding 2023 to MIRM Coding III students on Tuesday, March 07, 2023. Students learned about changes to Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding processes, effective January 01, 2023. Ms. Frank discussed the impact to both healthcare providers and medical coders, and taught students to “think like an auditor,” while walking-through several fictitious patient examples.

 

Significant Student Accomplishments

Shelby Sisk, MIRM student, successfully passed the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialing exam in February 2023. This is a nationally recognized certification, awarded by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Web Development and Digital Media – WEB

WEB has added a new member to their advisory board. Brent Schultz is Director of Engineering at Third and Grove in Olathe, and will be able to help the program stay current with industry standards.

WEB chair, Whitney Bandel, was elected to serve as a CSIT representative on Educational Affairs starting the 2023-2024 school year.
