Position Overview Student Information Systems reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management which includes the following functional units: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Information Systems and the Office of the University Registrar.

Student Information Systems (SIS) is responsible for the functional set-up, maintenance and testing of enterprise-wide student systems at the University of Kansas. SIS works with end-users to analyze business practices to determine the best way to meet unit, enrollment management and University goals through efficient, optimal return on investment.

This position is responsible for managing the evaluation, set-up, implementation of aspects of the Advising Tool at the University of Kansas as well as the ongoing management of course lists and requirements within the Campus Solutions Degree Audit system.  This position maintains close working relationships with relevant staff and faculty in each of the assigned Schools, College and/or Graduate Studies.

Job Description 25%          System Maintenance          

  1. Maintain system setup for all advising requirement groups, requirements, course lists, course substitutions, entity groups and other advising related setup.  Makes decisions on the best setup to meet user needs.
  2. Document all setup.
  3. Evaluates and interprets the needs of academic units and end-users to implement advising and requirement changes.

25%        Production Oversight   

  1. Manage system problems – determining which ones are configuration-related (user level), extract issues, or software bugs.
  2. Work with the appropriate technical and functional staff to resolve problems if programming is required.
  3. Troubleshoot Advising support tickets and other productions issues on a daily basis.

20%        Project Management and Testing

  1. Liaisons with staff in the academic units/end-users and developers regarding system implementation management.
  2. Assist with testing in PeopleSoft, advising tools, system improvements and bundles/fixes.
  3. Ensures implementation issues are identified, reported, tracked and resolved rapidly.
  4. Develops solutions to implementation issues based on functional knowledge.

15%        User Support/Training    

  1. Provides superior customer service to users while managing expectations
  2. Assists end-users with use of the Advising software and ad hoc reports.
  3. Utilizes SAS and the reporting datamart when needed for reporting.
  4. Conducts basic training sessions as needed to help beginning users learn how to run DPRs, run/manage ID lists, etc.
  5. Maintains and enhances a plan for staff and student training needs for use of the Academic Advising Tools.

10%        Leadership and Supervision

  1. Works with staff university-wide as needed to provide maintenance and support of the advising modules within Campus Solutions.
  2. Ensures accuracy, efficiency, timeliness and quality end-user support for users of this module.  Keeps abreast of latest developments, technologies and practices for area and works with supervisor, staff and end-users to determine if, when and how to deploy in the KU environment.

 5%         Other Duties as Assigned               

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications 1.     Bachelor’s Degree or 1 years related experience or high school diploma and 3 years of related experience

2.     Three years’ of experience with University Enterprise system.

3.     Two years’ experience with advising, specifically in using degree audit forms and ad hoc reporting.

4.     Strong written communication skills as demonstrated in the application materials.

5.     Two years’ of experience with Excel, Access, or other database and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Qualifications 1.     Master’s Degree

2.     Proven ability to successfully work with diverse users who exhibit competing needs or requirements.

3.     Understanding of the interrelationships of the Campus Solutions modules used by KU.

4.     Understanding of set theory.

5.     Experience with SAS or reporting tools with the ability to create SAS or PeopleSoft queries.

6.     Ability to work independently.

7.     Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies.

8.     Project Management experience.
